Hey Thirsty Bikers! Here’s a trip to add to your bucket list after Mother Nature decides to thaw out the frozen tundra of winter in Western Pennsylvania. And it’s so worth the cold, frosty wait! Cause once the sun shines and the birds sing once again, well this area is just freakin’ breathtaking. The hills and valleys that dot the area combined with the friendly small-town vibes and rich history make this area of the Laurel Highlands a gotta-see trip for any biker.
Any time of the year will get you a one-of-a-kind ride, from the colorful fall foliage to the lush greenery waiting to greet you and your old lady or old man after a chilly winter. There’s no doubt about it, Western PA will show you a good time, and we’re all about good times, right? In the latest installment of the Thirsty Biker Chronicles, get ready to fire up your Thirsty Biker app, saddle up and take a trip through the Laurel Highlands and enjoy flavorful bites, ice cold drinks and a kind of hospitality that you can’t find anywhere else in the country.
We’re starting this ride off right at the Cool Water Saloon in Apollo, home to some of the best food you’ll find outside the Steel City, like mouth-watering pizza, burgers, wings, wraps and more. Stay a while and kick up your boots as you chat with the locals over a cold one. And with live music and entertainment, plus food and drink specials regularly, it’s always a good time when you’re at the Saloon. Another top spot for bikers is Bear Claw Country Sports Bar, known for its live music, game nights and plates towering high with amazing food. Try the Brown Bear and get ready to bring your appetite, and if you’re thirsty, they’ve got plenty of refreshments to cool you off after a day in the summer sun.
Take advantage of happy hour, chef’s specials and more at The Hitching Post Restaurant & Bar in Leesport. Stop by for Sunday brunch or take advantage of any of their awesome dishes. No matter what time of the day you arrive, the friendly staff at The Hitching Post is ready to make you smile. For a more laid-back atmosphere, head on over to Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub for out-of-this-world food, like PA’s largest hamburger (anyone up for the challenge?) and over 40 beers on tap. Finally, take a visit over to Jim & Jimmie’s in Johnstown for cold drinks, good food, dancing, live music and more. Whether you’re looking for a sit-down restaurant or a wild and crazy atmosphere, Western PA’s got what you need to make your next ride epic.
Start out at Cool Water Saloon, about an hour outside Pittsburgh, then take the scenic route through Punxsutawney (say hi to Phil for us!) on your way to Bear Claw. The Hitching Post lies ahead a few miles and from there, you’ll want to stop and enjoy some delicious food and a cold brew at Denny’s before finally kicking your boots up and calling it a day at Jim & Jimmie’s.
The ride through the Laurel Highlands is filled with twists and turns, hills and valleys, and when you want a ride that you’re gonna remember, this one is it. From the bustling outskirts of Pittsburgh to the historic landmarks that lie ahead on your journey, get ready to meet some good roads and great people of Western PA that you’ll want to experience again and again.
